MCT Digital and Gerber Technology announced Gerber’s acquisition of MCT Digital; signaling a new era in automated cutting and finishing and offering seamless print to cut workflow integration to a variety of customers worldwide.
Widely recognized as pioneers in providing integrated software and hardware solutions, both MCT and Gerber Technology will continue to provide their customers with the highest-quality products and innovative technologies.
As a leader in the development of digital finishing, MCT Digital will add modular laser cutting technology to Gerber’s portfolio of industrial strength finishing solution hardware and software. MCT’s innovative large format cutting will also build on Gerber’s reputation of quality in the sign and graphics and packaging industries.
“The product leadership, engineering and technical knowledge of these two companies creates countless opportunities to help our customers improve their productivity, streamline their workflows and improve overall efficiency,” said Scott Schinlever, president and chief operating officer, Automation Solutions for Gerber Technology.
After pioneering and introducing Europe’s two leading machine manufacturers to the US marketplace, MCT Digital’s mission was to develop a next generation digital cutter made in the USA. The VersaTech and VersaTech2 were designed and developed specifically to add more versatility and productivity to the end user’s finishing capabilities. This was accomplished by MCT Digital’s evolutionary and patent-pending dual belt technology, and “all-in-one” laser-router-blade solution for high performance laser cutting of roll to roll fabrics, acrylics, paper products as well as traditional mechanical cutting.
Steen Mikkelsen, CEO of MCT Digital, was directly responsible for the introduction of today’s print-to-cut workflow in the sign and graphics and packaging industries with his development of the i-cut® software.
Gerber Technology invented automated cutting in 1968 and the company continues to create the world’s most integrated design and production ecosystem of hardware and software in the apparel, home and leisure, and transportation markets. Gerber also revolutionized the way vinyl was designed and cut in the sign and graphics space with the introduction of OMEGA™ software and the GERBER EDGE® thermal transfer printer.
“We are very excited about combining our technology platform with Gerber’s global scale to drive growth,” said Nik Mikkelson, founder and CTO, MCT Digital. “The passion, focus and culture of our two companies are very well aligned and will maintain the same standard of excellence our customers expect, and our employees’ deliver.”
Gerber’s financial strength, global service and support network, and long-standing customer relationships, coupled with MCT’s portfolio of print-to cut software and finishing technology, has positioned the company for success and will ensure that it continues to serve as an industry leader – continually innovating and providing quality solutions for wide array of customers.
